Lonely Planet Names Zagreb as the best place to visit in Europe in 2017.
The world's largest travel guide book publisher made a list of the top ten most exciting destinations in Europe to visit in 2017, and Zagreb was ranked as the number one European destination.
Tom Hall, the editorial director at Lonely Planet explained why they chose Zagreb as the number one destination in 2017. “Zagreb tops our list because it ticks all of these boxes. Croatia is one of Europe’s hottest destinations right now but many people head straight to the coast, meaning they miss out on visiting a city that has a dynamic cultural offering, a thriving food and drink scene.”
Judges also praised Zagreb for being 'both cosmopolitan and edgy' and with the opening of new „Franjo Tuđman“ airport, traveling to Zagreb has never been easier or cheaper.
Zagreb deserved the first place on this list because of its beautiful Austro-Hungarian architecture and traditional squares, often full with people visiting their favorite farmers market. On the other hand, modern architecture of certain parts of the city and flourishing street art offers something to see and hear for everyone.
And as the most recent of all the attractions, the craft beer industry in Zagreb has flourished in recent years and now provides very interesting and developed touristic scenery.
