SUPERHEROES 2.0 (LAUBA) (23.09.-27.10.2015)
LAUBA has arranged a super exhibition for this fall season!
The exhibition “SUPERHEROES 2.0,” Lauba’s first one created as a result of an international collaboration, will win you over. This time our partner is a Swiss institution MAISON D’AILLERURS (House of Elsewhere) from Yverdon-les-Bains. Until you’re waiting for the opening in Lauba, we will remind you why we have been so fascinated by superheroes…
WHO ARE SUPERHEROES?
In modern popular fiction, characters with superpowers were invented in the first half of the 20th century. They are pop-art fairytale inventions with roots in thousands of years old myths and at the same imminently appear in the yin-yang form since all superheroes possess exceptional out-of-this-world abilities, but once out of their costumes, they are seemingly ordinary humans with flaws and imperfections.
WHAT DO ARTISTS HAVE IN COMMON WITH SUPERHEROES?
At the first glance, all of the artists are enchanted by superheroes. But then you notice the subtle aesthetics of superheroes on two levels – historical and artistic. The chosen artists work in five classic mediums (painting, sculpture, photography, comic books and installation) which reveal the aesthetics and symbolism of pop culture through motifs of various superheroes. The chosen works invite the viewer to discover the human nature in each one of the superheroes, but also to identify a superhero inside them.
